Lucigen was founded in 1998 to develop novel, useful products and technologies for advancing life science research. Our unique kits and methods are used by researchers worldwide to achieve dramatic advances in gene cloning, genomics, and protein expression. In addition, thermostable enzymes that degrade carbohydrates may increase the efficiency of ethanol biofuel production. Our discovery of several such enzymes led to the spinoff from Lucigen of C5?6 Technologies, Inc., in 2006.

Core Technologies
Lucigen’s scientific expertise in cloning and expressing DNAs that are otherwise “unclonable” has led to the development of technologies to capture nearly any genetic target, whether it is rare, unstable, structurally unusual, or exists in extreme environments. These technologies have been incorporated into the Random Shear technology used in our library generation service as well as CloneSmart? and BigEasy? Linear Cloning Systems. Lucigen has also developed proprietary methods for producing E. cloni? E. coli cells for cloning, phage display, and protein expression that have the highest transformation efficiencies available. These cells are available separately and in our cloning kits. We can, also, use our methods and expertise to create high-efficiency competent cells of any strain through our Custom Competent Cell Manufacturing Service.
